Celebrating a Holiday of Gratitude
This week is Thanksgiving, and many of us are probably busy preparing food, hosting family or running last minute errands. While it’s easy to focus on our to-do lists, I want to take a few minutes to reflect on the many ways I’ve been blessed this Thanksgiving. I was able to do this recently when I spent an autumn morning walking in our new neighborhood.
I try to daily remind myself to be grateful for the big and small things. Sometimes I do a better job at this than others. It’s easy to be grateful for the fantastic vacations we took this year or the beautiful house we built. But it’s hard to be grateful when I didn’t get the job I wanted or spent days hunched in the bathroom because I was sick from my first pregnancy. Those things are blessings, too, even if it doesn’t feel like it at the time.
When I gather together with my husband and my in-laws this Thursday for Thanksgiving, I’ll be thanking God for his abundant blessings – for my husband and family who mean the world to me; for the healthy baby growing inside of me; the home we get to call our own; my health, which I never want to take for granted; and for all of you, my friends on this blog.
“Oh Lord that lends me life. Lend me a heart replete with thankfulness.” William Shakespeare
Thanksgiving is a special holiday for gathering together to remember our blessings. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday with your loved ones. If you feel like sharing, leave me a comment below and let me know what blessings you’ll be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
