My daughter’s first birthday is coming up in a few weeks and I’m super excited to give her a cute, colorful birthday party. She’s going to be one so I’m going to try not to go over the top, but it’s hard because everything is so cute! My husband keeps reminding me that she’s never going to remember her first birthday, but pictures. live. forever.
While I’ve been mentally planning her birthday for some time now, I’m just now settling on the details, starting with the theme. While I love all the muted colors, blush, gray and gold themes for little girls (see Audrey’s nursery) I’m a little over it. Ok, way over it. I want color! And balloons! And Crayons, and party hats, and pom-poms! Audrey has a bright, joyful personality and I want a first birthday party to match it.
So today’s post is about pulling inspiration (thank you, Pinterest!) from multiple sources to get ideas for everything from the decorations to the cake to the games. A colorful children’s first birthday party inspiration post, if you will. Enjoy!
Did I mention Audrey’s first birthday party is all about color and balloons? How perfect is this Over the Rainbow birthday party from Project Nursery + Junior?! All those glorious balloons!
Maybe I should explain… I love balloons as evidenced here and here. But recently when we were back home for Christmas, my BIL had a small balloon and Audrey loved it! It was her first experience with balloons and it was a lightbulb moment for me. Her first birthday must include balloons and tassel garland and pom-poms because… why not? They’re so fun! I love having a daughter! 😀
All. the. sprinkles!
My husband, who is a surprisingly good baker, has already claimed he will bake Audrey a carrot cake for her birthday, which I love. However, we’ll most likely have cupcakes and another cake for everyone else, and there will be sprinkles, colored frosting and maybe more balloons. 😉
I’m not the best at planning games and activities for parties, especially for little ones. Thankfully, Crayons exist and these super cute printable coloring mats are available from Hostess with the Mostess for free.
This brings me to our biggest conundrum whilst planning Audrey’s first birthday party – where do we have it, at home or at an alternate location where older kids can run around outside? We chose the latter. Bonus: we don’t have to deal with the spills or post-party clean up. 🙂
These beautiful, bright and colorful birthday parties have inspired me for Audrey’s first birthday. I find it helpful to put together moodboards, collages, inspiration posts, whatever is necessary when I’m planning a something. I did it for my wedding, my sister’s baby shower and I certainly did it when building our house. In my marketing days, we did this a lot for our clients when we worked on brand development. It’s all about getting the creative juices flowing. Does anyone else do this in their everyday life? Also, since this is my first kid’s birthday party, is there anything I’m missing / forgetting about party planning?
Joie de vivre and colorful inspiration,
