Audrey is officially a one year old! We had her first birthday party last Sunday, (Jan. 21) with her family and friends. It was so much fun! I couldn’t help reminiscing about what happened on that day a year ago, but I wasn’t emotional or sad. I loved celebrating her birthday!
We had her party on Sunday while my dad and Dan’s mother were in town. We had it in the golf course clubhouse where we live, which was wonderful because they set it up for us, we brought in the decorations and cupcakes, and they cleaned it up when we left. 🙂
Our theme, as I mentioned in a previous blog post, was basically just balloons and colors, which isn’t really a theme at all. 😉 Audrey loved her cousin’s balloon at Christmas, so I wanted to incorporate balloons, and I wanted everything to be bright, colorful and joyful. I bought a dozen balloons from Party City that were in two bunches anchored to the floor to frame Audrey’s high chair, and I did a lot of crafting. Well, a lot for me. I made the tissue paper garland, the pom-pom straws, party hats and the cupcakes. I found this wonderful resource for the coloring sheets and the cake toppers. Everything else I found at Target or Michael’s.
Several friends and neighbors came to celebrate with us. I was sad that more family couldn’t make it, but I was happy my dad and MIL were there. It was so fun to watch all of the kids having fun, and they loved helping Audrey open her gifts.
On Audrey’s actual birthday (Jan. 23), we started off the morning with a balloon shower and presents. Pretty great way to start the day! We had opened a few gifts at her party but saved the majority of them for her to open at home on her actual birthday.
She got so many fun, new toys!
In the afternoon, Dan, my mother-in-law and I took Audrey on a birthday outing to the Tennessee Aquarium. She had never been so it was cool for us to see how she reacted to the big tanks, fish, sharks, river otters and other displays at the museum. She did really well – no tears! She’s such a chill baby! She just watched everything, and even though I could tell she didn’t know what was going on, she was fine going along with it all. She gets that from her father’s side. 😉
Celebrating Audrey’s first birthday was honestly the most fun birthday I’ve been to in quite a while. Including my own, which is coming up on Feb. 4! I know she’ll never remember this birthday and there will be many more parties in the future, but it was very special for me. After surviving the first year of motherhood, I can celebrate a little too, right?! 😉
