Nine months old, can you believe it?! These days it’s hard to get Audrey to sit still long enough to take her picture. She’s Army crawling all over the place, eating lots of different foods, exploring new things, cutting four new teeth and laughing/smiling all day.

I think I say this every month but this might be my favorite stage so far. I like that she’s more mobile, more “chatty,” and more engaged with us. I can tell she’s starting to understand me a little. For instance, she can tell from my tone when I’m playful and when I’m serious. While playing on the floor, she frequently looks up at me to smile or show me a toy. She loves to be with Dan and I wherever we are, and she crawls after Willie kitty until he runs away. It’s hilarious to watch!

Audrey’s had a few adventures this month, including another plane trip this time to Kansas for our annual Kansas State University (my alma mater) Homecoming weekend.

Read more of her adventures, milestones and surprises this month below:

How old is she: 9 months and 1 week!

How big is she: We had her 9-month appointment last week so I know her exact measurements. 🙂

Height: 27.5 in.
Weight: 15 lbs. 14 oz.

Sleeping: By now her sleep schedule is pretty consistent. She wakes up around 8:30 a.m., takes a morning nap around 11 a.m., an afternoon nap around 4 p.m., and we put her to bed between 8:30-9 p.m.

Eating: We’ve made some progress on the feeding front. I’d say the breastfeeding to bottle-feeding (formula or frozen breast milk) ratio is about 50/50. I’m phasing out some of the pumping sessions and adding in more of the powdered formula. If I make it just right I can get her to drink the powdered formula. We’re still working on that, though. She eats baby foods three times a day along with some Cheerios or puffs, which she really likes to do by herself. And, now that she’s nine months old we’re going to start giving her more table foods, like pasta noodles, rice, beans, cooked veggies, eggs, etc. I’m also eager to try peanut butter on her.

Milestones: Audrey’s right on with her development. Yay! Over the past month she’s upped her mobility game. She Army crawls all over the place, she stands while supported and leans against furniture, she rolls front and back, she’s babbling/talking (she says “mama”) she grasps small objects with her pincher fingers and she bangs toys together.

Personality: Her personality is coming out more and more, and I just love it. She’s very engaged if you’re talking to her and makes funny facial expressions, she’s curious about everything (especially the cat and my cell phone), she’s talking and babbling more, and she likes to smile and laugh.

Best moment this month: For me, the best moment this month was taking her back to Kansas for K-State Homecoming and my sister’s baby shower (post coming soon!). She got to spend a lot of time with family, be around other kids, explore new places, and she did it all like a champion. She’s becoming an old pro at flying! 😉

Audrey’s favorite things are: Mom, Dad and Willie kitty are her favorite things. It’s really cute and funny to watch her crawl after the cat, and he’s scared of her so he just runs away. Otherwise, she still loves her bunny rattle, Eeyore toy and Sophie the giraffe. However, I read that babies her age like to take plastic toys in and out of baskets, so I put plastic measuring cups, spoons and some of her small toys in a large mixing bowl from the kitchen, and she loves dumping them out and carrying them all around the room. I’m pretty sure I’m going to lose my measuring spoons, but that’s ok.

Any surprises this month: Audrey has developed a little bit of stranger anxiety this month, which surprised me a little. I know it’s a common thing, but she doesn’t get it all the time. For instance, we had a neighborhood block party cook out a couple of weeks ago, and she cried almost the whole time. It was very unlike her.

She also cut her four top-front teeth this month. They all came in basically at the same time. She never acted as if she was in pain or ran a fever, so we didn’t even know until we saw them popping through. Although, she was drooling a lot for a while… I guess that was my clue. I’m going to miss her little toothless grin!

Looking forward to: I know we’re still a couple of months away, but I’m looking forward to the holidays with Audrey, especially Christmas. I think she will love the Christmas lights on the tree, the presents, the music and (maybe) the snow. 🙂
